Volition, Inc. is an American video game developer best known for franchise titles such as the Saints Row series, the Red Faction series (including Red Faction: Armageddon), and the Summoner RPGs. Founded in the mid-1990s and long associated with publisher THQ, Volition built a reputation for action-oriented, open-world and genre-spanning games with a focus on player freedom and emergent gameplay mechanics.
After THQ's bankruptcy in 2012, Volition was sold to Nordic Games (which later rebranded parts of its portfolio under the THQ Nordic name) and has continued to operate as a studio under that corporate umbrella. The studio is headquartered in Champaign, Illinois, and continues to develop console and PC titles while supporting legacy properties and occasional new IP initiatives.
