Thinkbox Software, Inc. (now part of Amazon Web Services / AWS Thinkbox)

Thinkbox Software was an independent developer of high-performance tools for visual effects, animation, and rendering pipeline automation. Its best-known product was Deadline, a scalable render farm management system (Deadline Monitor is the client used to view and control jobs). Thinkbox also developed tools widely used in VFX pipelines, including Krakatoa (a high-volume particle renderer), Frost (point-cloud meshing), and XMesh (geometry caching and scene interchange utilities). The company’s products targeted studios, post-production houses, and other organizations that require distributed rendering and large-scale compute orchestration.

In 2017 Thinkbox was acquired by Amazon Web Services and its products and team were integrated into the AWS Thinkbox offering. Under AWS, Thinkbox tools continued to be developed and supported, with strong integration points for on-premises pipelines and cloud bursting to AWS compute resources.
