Broadcom Inc. (owner of the Symantec enterprise security business; Norton consumer products now managed by Gen Digital)

Symantec was an American cybersecurity company founded in 1982, best known for consumer-facing Norton antivirus products and enterprise offerings such as Symantec Endpoint Protection. Over decades the Symantec name became synonymous with endpoint security, anti-malware, and a broad portfolio of security tools and services for both consumers and businesses.

In November 2019 Broadcom Inc. completed the acquisition of Symantec’s enterprise security business and many Symantec-branded enterprise products were brought under Broadcom’s software organization. The consumer Norton and LifeLock businesses were separated and became NortonLifeLock (later part of what is now Gen Digital). Today, Broadcom continues to develop and sell the inherited enterprise security products under its corporate umbrella, while consumer-facing Norton products are operated by Gen Digital.
