SNK Corporation (formerly SNK Playmore)
SNK Corporation is a Japanese video game hardware and software company best known for its Neo Geo arcade and home systems and for long-running game franchises such as Metal Slug, The King of Fighters, Samurai Shodown, and Fatal Fury. The company was originally founded in 1978 as Shin Nihon Kikaku (SNK) by Eikichi Kawasaki and became widely known in the late 1980s and 1990s for high-end arcade hardware and console-quality arcade titles under the Neo Geo brand.
After economic difficulties in the late 1990s and corporate restructuring in the 2000s, many of SNK's assets and IP were continued under the SNK Playmore name; in 2016 the company formally re-adopted the SNK name. Today SNK develops and publishes games for consoles, PC, and mobile platforms, licenses its classic franchises for collections and re-releases, and supports competitive play and merchandising tied to its flagship fighting-game series.
