Realm (now part of MongoDB, Inc.)
Realm is a mobile-first database and developer platform originally created to provide a lightweight, object-oriented local database for mobile applications (iOS and Android) with high performance and an easy-to-use API. The Realm Database allowed developers to persist objects directly without an ORM layer, and the ecosystem included developer tools such as Realm Browser/Realm Studio for inspecting and managing local databases, as well as libraries for multiple platforms (Realm Java, Realm Swift, Realm JS, etc.). Realm's feature set emphasized low-latency local storage, simple synchronization primitives, and an offline-first application model.
In 2019 Realm was acquired by MongoDB, Inc. and many of its products and technologies were integrated into the MongoDB product family under the MongoDB Realm branding (notably Realm Sync, which synchronizes client-side Realm databases with a backend).
