GraphQL (GraphQL Foundation)
GraphQL is an open-source query language for APIs and a runtime for executing those queries with existing data. It lets clients request exactly the data they need and nothing more, and it provides a strongly-typed schema that describes the capabilities of an API. The GraphQL project also encompasses a broad ecosystem of tools and reference implementations (such as GraphiQL, graphql-js, and various client and server libraries) used by developers to build, test, and document GraphQL APIs.
GraphQL was originally developed at Facebook to address the needs of complex client applications and was open-sourced in 2015. Governance and stewardship of the specification and many related community projects have since moved to the GraphQL Foundation (hosted by the Linux Foundation), where maintainers and contributors from multiple companies and the community collaborate on the spec, reference implementations, and ecosystem tooling. Major related projects and adopters include GraphiQL, Apollo, Relay...
