Obsidian Entertainment, Inc.
Obsidian Entertainment is an American video game developer founded in 2003 by a group of industry veterans, many of whom had worked at Black Isle Studios. The studio built its reputation creating story-driven role-playing games and RPG-focused console/PC titles. Early credits include work on Knights of the Old Republic II and Neverwinter Nights 2, and the studio gained wide recognition for developing Fallout: New Vegas (2010), which was published by Bethesda Softworks.
In the 2010s Obsidian expanded into original IP and crowdfunded projects such as Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny, and later developed The Outer Worlds (published by Private Division). In 2018 Obsidian was acquired by Microsoft and became part of Xbox Game Studios, while continuing to work on large-scale narrative RPGs. The company is known for strong writing, player choice systems, and deep RPG mechanics, and continues to develop both established and new franchises for PC and consoles.
