Novell, Inc.

Novell, Inc. was an American software company founded in 1979 and historically headquartered in Provo, Utah. Novell became a major provider of networking and enterprise infrastructure software in the 1980s and 1990s, best known for its NetWare network operating system and Novell Directory Services (NDS), later rebranded as eDirectory. Over the years the company expanded its portfolio to include collaboration and messaging (GroupWise), systems and endpoint management (ZENworks, Adaptive Agent), printing solutions (iPrint), and various utility and middleware offerings.

In 2011 Novell was acquired by The Attachmate Group; many of its product lines and technologies were subsequently absorbed into other enterprise software portfolios (including later transactions involving Micro Focus and other owners).
