Nippon Ichi Software, Inc. (日本一ソフトウェア, commonly shortened to NIS) is a Japanese video game developer and publisher founded in 1993 and headquartered in Kyoto, Japan. The company is best known for creating and maintaining the Disgaea series, a long-running tactical role-playing franchise noted for its deep mechanics, over-the-top damage numbers, and quirky sense of humor. Over the years NIS has produced and published a variety of niche and cult-favorite titles in the tactical RPG and JRPG space (for example Disgaea 4/5, Disgaea PC, Phantom Brave, La Pucelle, and Cladun), and has also handled ports and “Complete” editions for modern consoles and PC platforms.
