Logisim-evolution (open-source project)
Logisim-evolution is an open-source continuation/fork of the original Logisim digital logic simulator. The project is community-maintained and extends the original educational circuit simulator (originally authored by Carl Burch) with additional features, bug fixes, modern build tooling, and platform packaging. It is implemented in Java and aimed primarily at students, educators, and hobbyists for designing and simulating combinational and sequential digital circuits.
The project is hosted on GitHub where active contributors submit issues, pull requests, and releases. Logisim-evolution provides a richer component library, plugin support, improved file format compatibility, and periodic prebuilt artifacts for Windows (including an .exe launcher), macOS, and Linux. Development and distribution are handled openly via the GitHub repository and project pages rather than a commercial corporate website.
