Gearbox Software is an American video game developer founded in 1999 by Randy Pitchford and a group of industry veterans. The studio first gained attention for work on expansions and ports such as Half-Life: Opposing Force and later established itself with original franchises including Brothers in Arms and Borderlands. Gearbox is primarily known as a developer of narrative-driven shooters and looter-shooter experiences, with Borderlands 2 (published by 2K, a Take-Two Interactive label) being one of its most commercially and critically successful titles.
