Freescale Semiconductor, Inc. was a major American semiconductor manufacturer formed as a 2004 spin‑off from Motorola’s semiconductor products sector. Headquartered in Austin, Texas, Freescale developed and sold a broad portfolio of semiconductor products including microcontrollers (Kinetis), application processors (i.MX family), digital signal processors and networking processors (ColdFire, QorIQ), as well as analog and power management devices targeted at automotive, industrial, and consumer markets. Freescale supplied hardware, reference designs and software tools (IDEs, flashing/manufacturing tools, device configuration utilities) used by embedded systems developers.
