Maxis is a game development studio best known as the creator of the SimCity and The Sims franchises. Founded in 1987 by Will Wright and Jeff Braun, Maxis rose to prominence with simulation titles such as SimCity (1989) and later The Sims (2000), which became one of the best-selling video game franchises worldwide. The studio has also produced other notable titles like Spore (2008) and various spin-offs and expansions for its core series.

Since being acquired by Electronic Arts (EA) in 1997, Maxis has operated as an EA studio responsible primarily for The Sims franchise and other life- and simulation-focused games. The studio’s work spans game design, live-service content updates, expansions, and community engagement for titles such as The Sims 4. Over the years Maxis’ organization and locations have evolved under EA’s umbrella, but the Maxis brand remains associated with player-driven simulation experiences and deep, moddable game systems.
