Avast Software
Avast Software is a Prague-headquartered cybersecurity company originally founded by Pavel Baudiš and Eduard Kučera in the late 1980s (the project that became Avast dates to 1988; the company later operated as ALWIL Software before adopting the Avast brand). Over the decades Avast grew from a community-driven antivirus project into a global provider of consumer and enterprise security products, expanding its portfolio through organic development and strategic acquisitions.
Today Avast is best known for its flagship Avast Antivirus products and complementary offerings such as Avast Secure Browser, privacy and performance tools, and enterprise security solutions. The company has also acquired notable businesses in the space (including AVG Technologies in 2016) and completed a London IPO in 2018, building a large user base of free and paid customers while maintaining developer and open-source contributions through public repositories.
