Angel Studios (video game developer; later Rockstar San Diego)
Angel Studios was an American video game developer best known in the late 1990s and early 2000s for PC and console titles such as Midtown Madness and Midtown Madness 2, as well as driving/action games like Smuggler's Run. The studio was based in Utah and built a reputation for open-city driving simulations and technically ambitious console ports and original titles. Their work for Microsoft and other publishers during that era made them a recognized name in the racing and action subgenres.
In the early 2000s Angel Studios was acquired and integrated into the Rockstar Games family, becoming Rockstar San Diego. Under the Rockstar banner the former Angel team contributed to Rockstar franchises and developed new IPs, expanding beyond their original racing focus into larger-scale action and narrative titles. Today the studio is represented as part of Rockstar Games' global studio group; historical credits are commonly attributed to Angel Studios for the late-90s/early-2000s releases.
