Excluding applications or network interfaces

By default, WhatPulse looks at all your running applications and network interfaces for statistics. If you would like to exclude certain applications or interfaces from being measured, you can. All exclusions are managed in one place: the Settings tab, under the Exclusions section.

In WhatPulse 6.3, the exclusion screens were redesigned into a single consistent look, grouped under clear headings: Application exclusions, Window title content filtering, Web Insights exclusions, and Network interface exclusions.

Excluding applications

Application exclusions are a single list. Each excluded application shows one or more tags for what is excluded:

  • All stats: the application is dropped from every statistic entirely (input, network, and uptime).
  • Window titles: the application keeps counting as normal, but its window titles are hidden. See Window title privacy.

There are two ways to exclude an application:

From the Exclusions settings

  1. Click on the Settings tab and go to the Exclusions section.
  2. Under Application exclusions, click Add applications.
  3. The picker lists your currently running applications with their icons. Use the search box to find the one you want, and select one or more applications.
  4. At the bottom, choose the exclusion type: Exclude all stats or Exclude titles only.
  5. Click Add selected.

From the statistics tables

You can also exclude an application right where you see it: right-click an application in the Network, Uptime, or Input tables and click Exclude. The application disappears from the list and shows up in the exclusion list in Settings.

Ignore network application

note

Excluding an application from a statistics table excludes it from all stats. If you only want to hide its window titles, use the Add applications picker in the Exclusions settings and pick Exclude titles only.

Removing an exclusion

Excluded applications are not shown in the statistics tables, but they are kept in the exclusion list so you can start measuring them again:

  • Click a tag (for example All stats) to remove just that exclusion from the application.
  • Hover over a row and click the trash icon to remove the application from the list entirely.

Once removed, WhatPulse starts measuring the application again.

Excluding network interfaces

Under Network interface exclusions, click Add network interfaces to pick the interfaces WhatPulse should skip. Upload and download traffic on excluded interfaces is not counted - useful for VPNs, virtual adapters, or NICs you do not want in your stats.
