Description
dllhost.exe is the Windows COM Surrogate process used to host Component Object Model (COM) objects outside of the calling process. It allows potentially unstable or third-party in-process COM components (for example, shell extensions that generate thumbnails or property handlers) to run in a separate process so that crashes or faults do not crash the host application such as File Explorer.
