Terminator (open-source project)
Terminator is an open-source terminal emulator for Unix-like operating systems that emphasizes arranging multiple terminals in a single window using a grid or tiled layout. Originally created by Chris Jones and developed in the GNOME ecosystem, Terminator provides features such as split terminals, tab support, saved layouts, extensive keyboard shortcuts, profiles, and plugin support. It is implemented in Python and uses the VTE terminal widget (GTK) for rendering.
The project has been community-maintained for years and was historically hosted on Launchpad; more recent development and issue tracking is available on GitHub under the gnome-terminator organization. Terminator is distributed under the GNU General Public License (GPL) and is packaged in many Linux distributions (Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, etc.). There is no commercial company behind Terminator — it is maintained by contributors in the open-source community.
