Microsoft Research

Microsoft Research (MSR) is the research division of Microsoft Corporation, founded in 1991 to conduct both basic and applied research across computer science and related disciplines. MSR operates a global network of labs and research groups working on areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, systems and networking, human-computer interaction, graphics and vision, programming languages, security and privacy, and economics and computation. Over the decades MSR has published extensively in top academic venues, produced foundational technologies, and contributed to open-source projects and standards.

MSR’s mission is to advance state-of-the-art computing research and to transfer research outcomes into Microsoft products and the broader research community.
