Keybase, Inc.

Keybase is a developer-focused security company that built an easy-to-use public-key identity and encrypted communications platform. Launched in 2014, Keybase provided a way for users to prove ownership of online identities (Twitter, GitHub, Reddit, domains, etc.) and to map those identities to cryptographic keys. Its flagship products included end-to-end encrypted chat, Keybase Filesystem (KBFS) for encrypted file storage and sharing, and “teams” for group key management. The project emphasized open-source clients and tooling to make public-key cryptography practical for everyday users and developers.

In May 2020 Keybase was acquired by Zoom to help develop and improve Zoom's security and end-to-end encryption capabilities, while much of Keybase's code and tooling remained open-source on GitHub.
