Firaxis Games
Firaxis Games is an American video game developer founded in 1996 by industry veterans Sid Meier, Jeff Briggs, and Brian Reynolds after they departed MicroProse. Headquartered in Hunt Valley (Sparks), Maryland, Firaxis built its reputation on deep, strategy-focused titles and has been closely associated with the Sid Meier brand since its inception. The studio became part of Take-Two Interactive’s 2K label in 2005, which has published many of its major releases.
Firaxis is best known for developing the modern Civilization series (including Civilization IV, V, and VI), the science‑themed Civilization: Beyond Earth, and the rebooted XCOM franchise (XCOM: Enemy Unknown and XCOM 2). The studio specializes in turn‑based 4X and tactical strategy games, focusing on long-term design, modding support, and post‑launch content. While it collaborates with 2K for publishing and distribution, Firaxis remains the primary creative and development force behind its flagship strategy franchises.
