Windows Desktop Gadgets

Windows Desktop Gadgets, originally called Windows Sidebar, are widgets that were first added in Windows Vista and can also be used on Windows 7. These small applets provide quick access to frequently used functions and information such as the weather, system monitoring, and news updates. Microsoft discontinued the support of desktop gadgets starting with Windows 8 due to security vulnerabilities.
