Silent Hill is a survival-horror video game franchise published by Konami and originally developed by the internal Team Silent group. Debuting in 1999 on the PlayStation, the series is known for its psychological horror, atmospheric environments, disturbing creatures, and a heavy emphasis on mood, story, and sound design (notably composer Akira Yamaoka).
