Call of Duty: Black Ops II is a first-person shooter video game for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U. It was developed by Treyarch and published by Activision. It is the ninth game in the Call of Duty series, and the third game in the Black Ops series. It was released on November 13, 2012.
The game is set across two timelines, the first being in the 1980s where the player control Alex Mason, and the second in 2025, where the player controls Mason's son, David. The 1980s missions primarily take place in Cuba, while the 2025 missions take place in Pakistan, Yemen, and Downtown Los Angeles.
The 1980s story follows the Cold War era between the United States and the Soviet Union, while the 2025 story follows a new Cold War between China and the United States. The 2025 storyline also features an eleventh Mission, set in India.The game features a new game engine, as well as a new create-a-class system.
The game's campaign also features branching storylines, in which the player's choices affect the ending. In addition, Black Ops II introduces "Specialists", officer classes with unique abilities, which can be used in multiplayer.
The game was announced on May 1, 2012, and was first shown to the public on its release date, November 13, 2012, with a livestream on the game's official website.
