WhatPulse 5.2
March 4, 2023
π Notes
- We've prepared 5.2 for an upcoming website update that is scheduled for March 16th. To ensure uninterrupted pulsing, we encourage all users to upgrade to WhatPulse 5.2 before that date.
π New Features
- Introducing %TodayUptime% as a variable in the Geek Window, which displays today's uptime.
π Improvements
- Improved application upload handling, which resolves missing applications on the website.
- Enhanced Geek Window sizing, allowing for a much smaller window size.
- For Premium users, we have improved the weekly online database backups to run in the background, instead of the dedicated backup window.
- Improved mouse distance handling; distances could be too great in some scenarios.
π Bug Fixes
- Fixed an issue where Apple M-CPUs were showing up as 'Apple M1 Ma'.
- Corrected the initial application uptime overview, which was displaying all-time instead of today's data.
- Fixed an issue where pulsing application stats for newly installed clients were not showing up in some cases.
- On macOS 13 and above, we have signed the WhatPulseMaintenanceTool.app, which enables it to run again. Previous versions of macOS may require a reinstallation to activate the updates.
WhatPulse 5.1
November 30, 2022
π New Features
- Add unpulsed mouse scrolls, mouse distance, and ranks for scrolls and distance to Geek Window variables.
- Make the Geek Window canvas larger, so you can add more stats.
- Apple Silicon: Also make the installer a native Silicon app, preventing the need of Rosetta for the installation of WhatPulse.
π Improvements
- Windows hid system shortcuts (mostly involving alt) from WhatPulse, but not anymore. Key counts and key combination recording now includes system shortcuts.
- Handle monitor setup changes (resolution, dpi changes) better, making mouse distance moved more reliable when you make changes to your monitor(s).
- Minor interface changes, like rearranging the stats on the Overview tab, styling the Geek Window transparency slider, and more.
π Bug Fixes
- Fix application selection resetting, causing a possible crash when acting on an application (like ignoring it).
- Skip tabs that are disabled (i.e., uptime is disabled entirely) during scroll and arrow navigation.
- Fix the network per-country view when changing between time windows; when going from a large time window (month) to a small (today), it didn't clean up the countries that have no stats for today.
- Reinstate buttons on macOS color picker for the Geek Window to make it clearer you can pick a new color and click OK.
- Linux: Resolve SSL errors when downloading and restoring a database.
WhatPulse 5.0
November 21, 2022
π New Features
- New stats for mouse distance and scrolls!
- Mouse distance is tracked in inches and translated into your native measurements. You can toggle between metric and imperial in the General Settings.
- Scrolls are counted in all directions: up, down, left, and right.
- We redesigned the mouse details page to fit the new metrics.
- Includes per-application stats.
- Computer Uptime: Add an uptime chart with the hourly uptime of the last eight days.
- Computer Uptime: Change the "Favorite reboot days" dot chart into a pie chart that's easier to read.
- Add support for hourly mouse coordinate exports.
- Add navigation links to the feedback form and help center for easy access.
- Support for macOS 13 (Ventura) and Apple Silicon processors.
- Add the ability to delete a network interface from the list, deleting its history.
- Add a startup parameter to get the current client version.
- For example: .\WhatPulse.exe --version
π Improvements
- Improve Geek Window position tracking with multiple monitors and fix remembering the Geek Window position between sessions.
- Make it easier to change the Geek Window font size.
- Upload the computer profile (specs, hardware) after pulsing if the website doesn't have a profile. Speeds up the computer profile visibility.
- Modernize the software framework: Windows is now 64bit only, and we upgraded Qt from v5 to v6. This means faster development.
- Ignore Tailscale VPN interfaces. VPN interfaces produce bad stats.
π Bug Fixes
- Don't shuffle tabs when saving the settings, making the page jump.
- Input and Network applications could show fewer stats than recorded when applications have multiple different folders from where it runs. An example of an application that does this is Discord.
- Sometimes the client would not start on Windows with a non-administrator account, and when 'Run as Administrator' was enabled.
- Fix the percentage calculation of the mouse button with low numbers. Sometimes the middle button showed 1% with 0 clicks.
- Fix mouse coordinate exports. In some cases, the results were 0x0 instead of the resolution coordinates (i.e., 1021x879)
- Linux: fix detecting touchpad gestures as (many) clicks in some scenarios.
- Windows: Fix navigation menu icon size and quality when system scaling is more than 150%
π Notes
- The Linux AppImage is the only distribution from now on. We will no longer update the Snap.
- In line with the Premium features and messaging, the per-application input and uptime history are now limited to 1 week.
WhatPulse 4.3
September 4, 2022
π Bug Fixes
- Mouse Heat Map could show only top left clicks in certain situations.
- Sometimes the Russian language didn't show in the options.
WhatPulse 4.2
September 1, 2022
π Bug Fixes
- The mouse heat map could show a red dot after playing certain games. These games lock the cursor in the center of the screen. WhatPulse now ignores these clicks on the heat map.
- Networking stats on Windows could stop collecting after a computer wakes up from sleep.
π Improvements
- WhatPulse needs certain macOS system permissions to measure network traffic, and sometimes macOS overrules those permissions, stopping the network stats. We've improved the handling of these permissions, making them permanent.
- There's no longer a popup when you run WhatPulse as an administrator, and running as an administrator is now the default. This will make sure we count all applications.
π New Features
- Remote Desktop & Virtual Machine Support for keys and clicks, networking and uptime were already supported.
- A way to upload your computer hardware changes directly to the website via the Settings tab under the Advanced button.
- Add Russian to the available languages.
- Add translations for the facts in German, Spanish, Polish, and Slovak.

- Measure uptime per hour. This is going to be used in the weekly update soon, stay tuned!
π Bug Fixes
- Sometimes the list of database backups to restore was empty. Fixed that.
