AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) was an instant messaging application developed by AOL. Released in 1997, it allowed users to send and receive messages in real-time, engage in group chats, and share files. AIM gained popularity as one of the earliest and most widely-used instant messaging platforms, enabling people to connect and communicate with friends, family, and colleagues. However, as the usage of social networking sites and messaging apps increased, AOL discontinued AIM in 2017
