WhatPulse 2.2 beta 1 is here, and it brings some cool stuff!

What's changed:

- Customisable Geek Window
You can determine the entire look and feel of your Geek Window in 2.2. You can add text and statistics anywhere you'd like (drag 'n drop) and choose the background/font color. The default settings are pretty slick, but you can do anything with it!

- Application uploads
There are a lot of applications out there in the world of computers. With this feature, WhatPulse will start to map those applications so that we can use them on the website. Currently, the application will show up on the website inside your profile, but only to yourself, not the public.

This option is by default off and is located in the Settings tab ("Upload application info"). Please consider enabling this option so that we can see what data comes from you guys and so that we can learn how to sort through it the best.


These are the 2 major features, but there are a few other changes that I'd like to share:

- Display mouse heat-map in proper screen ratio.
- Use OS X's notification center for notifications.
- Make the tray menu more useful.
- Allow applications to be ignored for input as well.
- General code optimisation, which causes the client to respond more snappy. Also a few minor memory leaks removed.

Coming from WhatPulse 1.7.1 that I've used really long I decided to try running the latest WP2 beta.

I remember I read somewhere you can go back to WP1 if you renamed the computers or something, just in case you would need to go back.
Is this still working?

Some bugs(-) and feature requests(+):
 

• - WhatPulse crashes when trying to save Geek Window-changes if it's visible
• - Crashes until you're fast to close Geek Window at startup
• - Geek Window won't update the changes until you restart WP
• - Geek Window doesn't keep its size, gets reset after a while
  
  

• + Faster switching between pages, static as an option
• + Different color for variables in Geek Window, like in WP1
• + Change font and size in Geek Window
• + Disable Pulse on double click
• + Change double click action: Toggle Geek Window/Open Settings/Open Window. (Bold it in context menu to reflect current action)
• + Hide Premium only-pages

I think I like the application upload. I'm also a long time X-fire user but with whatpulse it's more than just games.
Installed this beta on one computer to test it. We'll see how this goes.

What's the trick to getting WP to count upload/download on a Mac?

Total dl and ul is synced with my profile. However it says:

Down: 1.02 MB
Up: 221 KB


It seems that the totals are stuck in MB and KB. The numbers are correct, though. Definite code tweaking needed due to the totals being stuck in MB and KB:

KB
MB
GB
TB
PB
EB (NYI-)
ZB (NYI-)
YB (NYI-)

The last three are for those who run businesses and have the client.

Also, the client does not add the totals until the next pulse. Is this intended?

As far as the bugs go:

It helps to completely uninstall the previous version before installing a new version, especially a beta version. Sounds redundant, but will wipe out the bugs you listed.

A couple of the feature requests look cool, but may not be able to be done. I can pelt the admin about them, so we'll see. It will probably be a couple of weeks at the soonest.

WhatPulse 2.2b1 hangs and crashes when the Geek Window pops up at startup. I uninstalled and reinstalled the program, and it ran fine, until I rebooted my computer. Then, it started crashing again. I downgraded back to the latest stable version for now.

If WhatPulse makes any sort of log files that can help to diagnose the problem, I'd be happy to reproduce the issue and send them to you.

My Geekwindow doesn't show when i click on Toggle Geek Window. Yesterday after the install he did, but now he didn't since this morning.
I'm using the Mac OS version of Whatpulse for Mountain Lion 10.8.

The new Geekwindow look really fantastic btw, but i don't like the crashing.

Aside from the issue I noted in a previous post, my client works perfectly. I believe I also mentioned in a previous post (in a different topic) that in order for beta clients (or any client) to work properly, you need two things:

1. A high-end machine that can handle the client. Preferably high RAM and a fast (4-8 core) processor.

2. A fresh install. This is done by uninstalling previous versions before installing the new version.

looks like not all applications are uploaded to the site or counted? (I see them btw on the tab in the program)

1. As I do not use wifi, I don't have that problem.

2. I don't think all the coding for the various apps have been implemented yet. Martijn or one of the other admins/coders could answer that question better than I can.

Not to keep harping on this point, but this is a beta client. Not everything will be working/implemented yet.
