WhatPulse 2.2.2b1 - smitmartijn - 10-20-2013 07:04 PM

Hi,

After taking a while to tackle some stuff, I'm pleased to release WhatPulse 2.2.2b1.

Downloads:
- Windows: http://files.whatpulse.org/beta/whatpulse-win-2.2.2b1.exe
- OS X: http://files.whatpulse.org/beta/whatpulse-mac-2.2.2b1.dmg
(Linux will follow shortly)

Changes:
- Database handling has been revisited, making connections more stable on all platforms.
- There were some remaining stability issues on OS X and Linux specifically, which should be solved with this method.
- General optimisations on memory and processor handling (Use less memory and gain performance)
- Only send used applications to the website, instead of all applications. This will minimise traffic sent to the website and fix certain situations where the applications were not being sent.

- Move application information gathering to separate process. This allows the application data to be filled when 'Application Uptime' is disabled
- Tweak updating timers when a GUI is opened, making updates flow smoother
- Fix tilde and apostrophe mixup in keyboard heat map
- Ignore dead center clicks (Some games lock the mouse there, ruining the heat map)
- Allow beta versions to use the automatic updater
- Fix GeoIP.dat downloads on computers using a non-standard characterset
- Start a fresh database when logging out of your account

- Windows: Use proxy inside updater when updating
- Windows: Fix detecting 'Enter' key
- Windows: Fix fallback network interface detection. Fixes no interfaces found in some situations
- OS X: Fix catching keys 9, ~ and caps lock
- OS X: Fix crash when losing input device during sleep
- OS X: Fix losing network hooks after sleep mode

As mentioned, the updater will receive notifications for new beta versions now as well. There is also a new way of staying up to date with the beta releases, and it's through the 'Beta releases' notification option inside http://whatpulse.org/my/#profile - Be sure to tick that as well!

Let me know how you get on!

No crash reporter in this version? I just get "WhatPulse has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution..."

Steps to produce a crash (same as in previous versions):
- Go to Applications page under Input tab
- Click 'all'
- Scroll down to the end of the list and select an application near the bottom
- Click 'today'

By the way, my work laptop has finally been upgraded to Win7, so no more WinXP adventures for me. Big Grin

Thank you for such a clear description! I have just fixed this for the next build. And it appears some mucking around with multiple developer tools, so it didn't include the tool in this build. Also fixed for next build.

No other complaints yet? I see 25 people have installed it, so I take it no news is good news? ;-)

It's not specific to just this beta version, but I'm still unable to upload any application info from either of my Windows 8.1 PCs.

On my installation of Mavericks, both the latest release and beta client don't appear to count keys properly.
Every time I load WhatPulse, it asks me to enable access for assistive devices.
This config is now app-specific in Mavericks (under Security and Privacy - Accessibility - Privacy). WhatPulse appears in the list, and it's ticked.
But it still doesn't count keys properly.
Weird.

Applications don't seem to be uploading on the pulses from my Win7 home PC. They stopped about a month ago while using v2.2.1. I was hoping that this beta would fix it, even tried logging off and deleting the user files. Nothing so far, but I'll gather some more stats and see if anything changes. Would it help to upload my database?

I didn't see "Mavericks support" on the changelog. ;-) It's coming.

It might. At least I could confirm something.

Something seems to be blocking the client from getting the information of applications with some people. Haven't figured out if it's an antivirus or windows thing or what.
