New design! (and updates)

Posted on 18th November 2007, 15:28:59

The new design (by Yannick) has (finally) been implemented. There were several reasons why it took so long, but I do apologize for the delay.

It is possible that there are some areas of the website that do not display properly (ugly font, etc), please let me know if you find anything!

Next to the website, here are a few updates of other projects going on:

- Linux client

Staykovmarin has taken it upon him to developer us a Linux client. And, he's almost done with it! So far the client has a GUI for most WM's, and is ready to pulse. The ETA should be a few weeks.

- Mac client

Development of the Mac client has been restarted, and looks good so far. I should have more on this in a few weeks.

- Windows client

The Gambler and HedgeHog have picked up where I left off on the Windows client. Mostly concerning the security, and lag of 1.5. Their progress looks good so far, and I believe they will have something soon.

- Website

Well, as you see, the new design has been uploaded. With this change, I also want to involve a few more people into the development of the website.

There are -a lot- of ideas floating around for it; the main things being a total overhaul to separate design and code (using smarty templates), database redesign for speed, using caching, dynamic graphs, expanding the premium services, and a lot more.

If you are a webdeveloper (PHP/MySQL), recognize any of above terms, and want to help WhatPulse out; send me an email at wasted@whatpulse.org.

To be continued!

There's a couple of bugs, for example, longer usernames go outside the table at the top. I'm assuming the bugs will be fixed as they are noticed?

Looking forward to the Linux client.

That's not a bug. I think, the code isn't designed for ajax reloading, it just gets the keys and klicks on the refresh of the page.

Good design. Also good news on the linux client ^^

Nice new layout, and I can't wait for the Linux client release.

In fact, after some searching, I found this: https://sourceforge.net/projects/linpulse/

Unfortunately, there's nothing on it at all yet. No binaries, no source, nothing. :(

Long usernames go outside of the box at the top (the userstatswrap). The fix is simple, just remove the padding-left from the "userstatswrap dd" class. (padding-left: 73px; ). ;)

    Hope this helps.

Okay. The only thing that pisses me off about WhatPulse, is that your last news post was a year ago, almost exactly. Where's the Linux client promised? Where's any progress, cancellations, any info at all on what's going on? Was there only a sole owner of WhatPulse, and he died? Do something to make us think you're alive!

*** Because I only really care about the Linux client, if I make one myself, will it be hosted here, if quality enough? Will the site even accept my pulses if I make a Linux client? Someone message me. I'll start checking back on the website for messages for the next couple of weeks. If I don't get a response, I'll be rather disheartened about the whole WhatPulse thing. It's really cool and all, but there's no activity other then automated stats changes.

    Hi SnoFox,

I understand your frustration fully. Wasted (head geek) is still alive but he's a very busy man. I'm hoping that very, very soon someone will post some solid updates.

In regards to the Linux client, it is already basically done so there's no point in making another, it just needs to get uploaded.

I'll do my best for you and everyone else that loves WhatPulse so much but don't lose faith just yet!

Oh, and as for a 'Vista Client', I don't believe the next minor release of WhatPulse for Windows will fix it, however the one after it should. Don't ask me for dates, don't give up about it not being in the next release, but there are fixes for Vista & 1.5 problems mentioned in the Knowledge Base and forums. (KB Article found here: http://whatpulse.org/kb/idx.php/5/031/Windows/article/WhatPulse-15-and-Windows-Vista.html)

If you say 'In regards to the Linux client, it is already basically done so there's no point in making another, it just needs to get uploaded.' 4 months ago, and it's still not uploaded, there are 2 options:

    a) You lied

isn't whatpulse free? am i missing something because it looks to me like people are demanding answers to a service which is provided free of charge.. which in my eyes is stupid, if you're paying for a product then you have the right to get arsy when something isn't done, but when it's free?

    amusing is all!
